Classic Cars to Drive; a Beautiful Experience

Interview with John Karampelas

The cocktail party question about classic cars: How would you describe to a stranger what you do?

mmm…I’m organizing Tour du Peloponnese, a bonding game between people sharing the same passion, adventure, travel and classic cars. And trust me on that, in the end all are returning. It’s like the “hotel California” lyrics “…you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave”.

What got you into classic cars?

Hard to tell, I was always into classic cars. I guess as a kid, I was fascinating with Hollywood movies and actors bigger than life driving those magnificent cars with that shapes. Then, it was the races; Acropolis rally was literally passing in front of my school. So, I was impressed with all that noises colors and smells (cars were appearing in front of me by that order…). Pure magic…

How did you turn your passion into a career?

It’s still a passion. The term career is “passionless”. But, passion is the crucial factor of success. If you involve 100% of yourself in a project and stay focus on that, sooner or later you will succeed.

What is your favorite automotive memory?

Long rides alone on my first Classic listening music from my radio….priceless!

How do you select cars for your inventory? Are there certain aesthetic criteria?

I guess it’s always some shapes that haunt you from childhood…the sweetie lines of Pininfarima designs, the Zagato innovation, the Bertone practicality. And off course Enzo Ferrari’s passion of building dreams and not cars.

What lessons from classic cars do you think that can be used for the future innovation of car design?

I hate the idea of cars looking the same. Also, I miss the character of its company and the passionate followers of Italian, French or British manufacturers. I hope to see that again in the near future.
